Virat Kohli has managed only 2028 runs at an average of 30.72 in 39 tests from 1st January, 2020.

Senior Indian batter Virat Kohli’s form has been a hot topic of discussion in the recent times. The star Indian batter has fared poorly in the longest format of the game, scoring at an average of just 30 since 2020.

Kohli’s poor form was a key factor in India’s loss in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Despite starting strong with a century in Perth, Kohli failed to score another half-century and was dismissed repeatedly playing deliveries outside the off-stump.

Many former cricketers have spoken about the future of the modern-day great, with some suggesting that Kohli should consider retiring from tests to focus on the ODIs.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has now shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s future in test cricket.

Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast, Clarke admitted that Kohli hasn’t scored as many runs in test cricket recently as he would have liked, but acknowledged his immense talent and impact on the game.

Clarke said, “It’s Virat Kohli! This guy can make a double hundred tomorrow. He’s that good a player. This guy could play, he should play until he’s had enough. If he retires from Test cricket right now, there’s only one team losing out, it’s India,

The former Australian batsman also responded to critics who suggested that Kohli should take inspiration from Sachin Tendulkar’s 241-run knock in Sydney in 2004.

He continued, “Sachin was a different player to Virat Kohli. A lot of people during this Australian summer were saying Sachin did it in a Test match. He got out cover driving a couple of times and then let it go to make a 200 at the SCG. Sachin is a different player to Virat. Virat’s greatest strength is bat on ball. He just plays it in a different way,
