Cricketing fraternity shower birthday wishes as "God of Cricket," Sachin Tendulkar turns 50
The living God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, celebrates his 50th birthday on Monday, April 24, 2023.
Even though it has been ten years since Master Blaster retired from international cricket, the world still remembers his stellar career. On social media, congratulations for Sachin Tendulkar, the only cricketer to have 100 international centuries, have been flooding in.
The legend began as a young prodigy, making his Test debut in 1989 at the age of 16, and was born in Mumbai in 1973 to Ramesh Tendulkar, a Marathi author.
He went on to establish himself as the best hitter of his time, demonstrating that his talent was no joke. He managed to extend his career to 24 years despite shouldering the load of the whole Indian batting lineup for much of the 1990s.
As a result, Sachin set numerous records, scoring 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs and 15,921 runs in 200 Tests, including 51 centuries. He holds the distinction of being the first player in ODI cricket to reach 10,000 runs.
Sachin is also the first man to play 200 Tests, score 100 international centuries, the first male cricketer to score a double hundred in ODI cricket, the most runs in ODIs and Tests, most matches played in both formats and other numerous records.
He also played six ODI World Cups from 1992 when he made his debut in the ICC tournament and played till the 2011 edition when after a long wait, Sachin Tendulkar finally became a world champion as the MS Dhoni-led side won the coveted trophy and made India two-time world champs.

Apart from international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar excelled in the Indian Premier League as well, as he captained the Mumbai Indians from 2008-2012. He scored over 2000 runs in the tournament including a century and was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2010 when he led the MI to the final against CSK.
He finally won the tournament in 2013 playing under Rohit Sharma and decided to call time on his cricketing career after that.
Later, he and was honored with the highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna in 2014, becoming the first sportsperson to get this honor. He was the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1997 and player of the tournament in 2003 World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar was also a member of the Rajya Sabha.
