Cricket World Cup 2023 venues to undergo major changes before the tournament

A total of 12 venues were picked to host the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

To begin the ICC Cricket World Cup preparations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to make some changes in the venues that have been decided to host the upcoming big event in October and November. 7 out of 10 stadiums will be getting some projects before the tournament officially begins. ICC picked 12 grounds to host the big ICC Cricket World Cup, 10 for the main event and 2 extras for the Warm-up games.

Trivandrum’s Greenfield Stadium and Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium will be getting the warm-up games along with Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium which will also host 3 games in the Cricket World Cup 2023. Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Dharamshala, and Pune have also been picked as Cricket World Cup 2023 venues.

These ground to see some changes ahead of Cricket World Cup 2023

To prepare for the Cricket World Cup, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium will be getting new floodlights and a few new corporate boxes, Kolkata’s Eden Garden will get some work done in the dressing room which will be upgraded. After multiple complaints, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium will see changes in the ticket system, seats, and also toilets. Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium will get new LED lights and they will also prepare two red soil pitches for the tournament. Lucknow’s Ekana faced massive controversy around the wickets during the entire IPL 2023 and also while hosting the international games. Soon Ekana Stadium will prepare a new track to play in the big tournament. 

New World Cup centres like Pune and Dharamshala will also see a few changes in their grounds. Pune’s MCA Stadium at Gahunje will get a makeshift roof for the fans. So far, fans have to sit in the open to watch the game. Apart from the Press, Corporate boxes area, most of the ground is open. Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium saw extensive work done just a few months ago. For the World Cup, HPCA Stadium will change the outfield. Ground saw a massive change in its drainage system and now can boast of being the best in the country. The outfield will be changed considering the weather conditions in Dharamshala in October and November. 

World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on 5th October with England taking on New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The same ground will also host the World Cup Final on 19th November and the big business India vs Pakistan encounter on 15th October. Apart from Hyderabad, all the other venues will be hosting 5 main event games, while Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium will host 3 main event games and two warm-up games. The tournament’s semifinal will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Garden on 15th and 16th November respectively. India will open their campaign against Australia at Chepauk in Chennai on 8th October.
