Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Saturday, April 18. They lost the clash by 10 runs after failing to chase a 195-run target.
During the match, CSK batter Ayush Mhatre sustained a severe hamstring injury in the second innings. The incident occurred in the fifth over, when Ayush pulled his hamstring while taking a couple of runs.
He was seen in immense pain, but after a brief discussion with the team physio, he resumed his batting. He could not bat for long as he was dismissed in the fifth over, scoring 30 runs off 13 deliveries. He was also seen limping while leaving the field.

Now, the five-time champions have confirmed that the 18-year-old star batter has been ruled out of IPL 2026 as he will need around 6-12 weeks to recover.
“Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Ayush’s injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery,” CSK informed on X.
Mhatre has shown a brilliant form in the IPL 2026. With 201 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 177.87, he is the leading run-scorer for CSK. He also hammered half-centuries in the clashes against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.
CSK are already short of wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni, who has been recovering from a calf injury since the start of the tournament. Mhatre’s ouster has added more woes for CSK’s batting unit.
Meanwhile, the Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. will next face Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, April 23, at Wankhede Stadium. They are currently placed in the eighth spot in the points table with four points.
