CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan provides update on MS Dhoni's knee injury
Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni deemed fit to continue with the season.
The man behind the wheel of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni has been nursing knee surgery which was revealed by their head coach, Stephen Fleming after the game against Rajasthan Royals. MS Dhoni will continue to play and lead the side although with restricted movements. It was Dhoni's 200th match as CSK's skipper and he was felicitated by the management for the same.
"He will play," confirmed CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. "It is true that he has an injury to his knee but he has not told us otherwise."
CSK's head coach Stephen Fleming took to the news about Dhoni's injury after the side's home match against Rajasthan Royals. "He is nursing a knee injury, which you can see in some of his movements. It's hindering him somewhat. His fitness has always been very professional. He comes a month before the tournament starts. He's a great player. We have never doubted him. He's just amazing," Fleming said.
MS Dhoni has been in fine touch in the limited game time he had so far. In a matter of few balls, Dhoni has created an impact and in the previous game against RR, he almost did the job for his team, falling shy of just three runs in the end. Dhoni's importance to the franchise is invaluable, given the records he has broken for the team over the years. The management will hope to see MS Dhoni continue the reigns in IPL 2023.
Chennai Super Kings' next battle awaits in M. Chinnaswamy against Royal Challengers Bangalore
The biggest southern derby as they call it, CSK against RCB has been one of the most talked about matches in IPL. Coming with a rich history of thrillers, another entertaining clash is on the cards as both teams will look to get back to the winnings games.
In the four matches CSK have played so far, they have managed to win and lose two matches apiece. In the first matches, CSK seemed to have evident issues with their bowling unit which was even clearly called by their skipper in one of the post-match presentations. After putting a plug to it to some extent, CSK is being hurt by their batting unit and especially, in the middle overs.
After their defeat against RR in the previous game, Dhoni said "I think in the middle overs we needed a bit more strike rotation, there wasn't much for the spinners but they had experienced spinners and we could not rotate strike. It was not that difficult and the ownership (of the loss) should come from the batters."
Up against RCB in their home ground won't be an easy task for the men in yellow. Going by history though, the numbers are in favour of CSK and they will hope to bank upon them.
