Sameer Rizvi became the most expensive uncapped Indian player bought in the IPL 2024 auction.

Just in time for the IPL 2024, Sameer Rizvi, a recent addition to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), returned to form. The batter from Uttar Pradesh struck a scorching triple hundred during a CK Nayudu Trophy game in Kanpur.

In his role as captain, Sameer is leading by example on the grand stage, exhibiting great form and leadership. Given that Sameer Rizvi gives CSK a strong and effective presence, this outstanding performance is encouraging for the team.

In the quarter-final match of the U-23 tournament between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra, Rizvi created a superb 312 off 266 deliveries, decorated with 33 boundaries and 12 maximums. Saurashtra had run out of methods to deal with the mayhem he had unleashed until Aditya Sinh Jadeja bowled an out-gas Rizvi.

He had come in to bat at No. 5 when his side was 184-3. He played an attacking game of cricket and took Saurashtra’s bowlers to the cleaners.

His excellent performance, combined with teammate Rituraj Sharma’s magnificent century (132 of 222), helped Uttar Pradesh reach a dominant 684/6 after 139.2 overs. Choosing to bat first, Uttar Pradesh took advantage of their home ground at Green Park Stadium, launching a persistent attack on Saurashtra’s bowlers. Rizvi, emerging as the main performer, finished Day 1 undefeated with an amazing 134 runs.

CSK broke the bank for Sameer Rizvi’s services in IPL 2024 auction:

Sameer Rizvi rose to prominence in the inaugural UP T20 League in 2023. With a strong batting average of 49.16 and a striking strike rate of 134.70 in T20s, his abilities drew the attention of the Chennai Super Kings. The IPL 2024 auctions saw a heated bidding war for the 20-year-old. Rizvi was initially valued at Rs 20 lakhs and drew interest from many franchises. CSK eventually paid him INR 8.40 crore.
