CSK vs RR: How did Sanju Samson perform on his debut for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026?

Sanju Samson made his debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday (March 30) in the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The match 3 of IPL 2026 got underway at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Notably, Samson parted ways with RR ahead of IPL 2026 and joined CSK through a trade deal. He was picked by Super Kings at his price of INR 18 crore and is being considered a successor of wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni.

CSK were asked by RR to bat first in their opening game. Samson was picked as an opener alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moreover, he was also named the wicket-keeper in MS Dhoni’s absence.

Sanju Samson scores six runs on his debut for CSK in IPL 2026

Sanju Samson completely failed to make a mark with his batting in the CSK vs RR clash. The right-handed batsman got out for six runs off seven deliveries. He scored a boundary, which too came off an edge, at the start but became a victim of pacer Nandre Burger in the second over.

Moreover, Ruturaj Gaikwad also got out for six runs as CSK suffered a massive top-order collapse. They lost four batters in the Powerplay and were six wickets down till the 10th over.

Key batters like Ayush Mhatre (0), Matthew Short (2), Sarfaraz Khan (17), and Shivam Dube (6) also failed to make a mark with the bat.

Meanwhile, CSK will miss the services of MS Dhoni for the first two weeks as he is recovering from a calf strain. The wicket-keeper batsman sustained the injury during training sessions.

Dewald Brevis is going to miss the first two to three matches due to a side strain. Pacer Spencer Johnson, who was picked as a replacement for Nathan Ellis, will join the CSK squad in mid-April.
