New Zealand have dominated the proceedings so far in the sixth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

After winning the toss and bowling first, New Zealand struck at regular intervals to bowl out Bangladesh for 236 runs in the first innings. Opening the innings, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored for his side with 77 runs off 110 balls, including nine fours.

Jaker Ali (45) and Rishad Hossain (26) provided late resistance for Bangladesh, adding 45 runs for the fifth wicket. All-rounder Michael Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis, claiming 4/26 in his 10-over spell.

Bangladesh, however, made a strong start to the second innings, dismissing New Zealand opener Will Young for a duck.

Bowling first over of the innings, Taskin Ahmed delivered the first five balls on a good length around the off stump before bowling a sharp in-cutter from the same length to sneak through Young’s bat-pad gap and rattle the stumps.

The game holds special importance in Group A for semi-finals qualification. A win for New Zealand will secure their place in the semi-finals alongside India, knocking out both Bangladesh and Pakistan, while a win for Bangladesh will keep all four teams in contention.
