ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Virat Kohli completes 14000 ODI runs, becomes third batter to do so

Virat Kohli has hit the most centuries in ODI cricket.

India have tightened their grip in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After bowling out Pakistan for a below-par total of 241 runs, India began their chase in an aggressive manner with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma adding 30 runs in the first five overs. Virat Kohli then came in and looked at his fluent best, reaching the landmark of 14,000 runs in ODI cricket along the way.

It has been a remarkable day for Kohli, as he also broke Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for the most catches by an Indian in ODI cricket.

Virat Kohli has become the third batsman to reach the 14,000-run mark in ODI cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234). He also became the quickest to achieve the milestone as he reached the figure in 287 innings, which is 63 lesser than Sachin Tendulkar (350 innings) and 91 lesser than Kumar Sangakkara (378 innings).

He also holds the record for the most ODI centuries, with a tally of 50. He was the highest run-scorer in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, amassing 765 runs in 11 innings.

Kohli is followed by Ricky Ponting and Sanath Jayasuriya, who finished their careers with 13,704 and 13,430 runs respectively.

  2. Kumar Sangakkara (SL) – 14,234 runs
  3. Virat Kohli (IND) – 14003 runs
  4. Ricky Ponting (AUS) – 13,704 runs

In the chase, India are 102/2 after 17.3 overs. Virat Kohli (31) and Shreyas Iyer (1) are at the crease.
