Pakistan fined due to slow over-rate against New Zealand in match No. 35 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in a league match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Babar Azam’s side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Babar pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Paul Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Joel Wilson leveled the charge.

Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs with DLS method

New Zealand and Pakistan faced off in a match that was affected by rain. Pakistan secured a victory according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method (DLS) after New Zealand set a challenging total of 401/6 in their 50 overs. Thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s 108 runs and Kane Williamson’s 95, Kiwis reached this total.

In the chase, Pakistan had to score 342 runs in 41 overs due to the DLS adjustment. Fakhar Zaman played a phenomenal, unbeaten innings of 126 runs off 81 balls, which included eight fours and eleven sixes. Babar Azam’s 66 not out was also crucial to Pakistan’s success.

When Pakistan came back to bat after the rain stopped, they were 21 runs par the DLS score. Soon after, due to another interruption of the rain, match was called-off, resulting in Pakistan’s favor. Pakistan ended with a score of 200/1 in 25.3 overs.
