David Warner goes past Steve Waugh in special Australian batting record
David Warner is only next to Australian legend Ricky Ponting in the elusive list.
Australian opening batter David Warner couldn’t replicate his Perth-like performance in the Boxing Day test played at the MCG against Pakistan. Despite getting a decent start, Warner got out after scoring 38 runs in 83 balls. Australia had a collapse as their lower-order couldn’t put much on the board and they were restricted to 318 runs in the first innings.
David Warner might have scored less in his innings at the MCG, but he went on to overtake former Australian skipper and legendary batter Steve Waugh in terms of most international runs scored by an Australian. Before the match, Warner needed 19 runs to overtake Waugh and become the second highest run-scorer for Australia in international cricket. Warner is playing his final test series of his career.

Abdullah Shafique (62) and captain Shan Masood (54) added a decent 90-run stand for the second wicket, but soon after Shafique’s wicket, Pakistan middle-order collapsed. Babar Azam perished after scoring just one run. At stumps, Pakistan were 194/6 in 55 overs trailing by 124 runs.
