David Warner launches fresh attack on Mitchell Johnson; Reveals reason behind his "Shut Down" celebration after scoring 100 vs Pak in Perth test
Australian opener David Warner scored hist sixth test ton against Pakistan in just 17 innings.
Australian opener David Warner did a magnificent job on first day of the first test against Pakistan at Optus Stadium in Perth. The left-hand batter set the stage on fire with his hundred. Warner also celebrated his century in style and made a ‘silence’ gesture. This gesture is seen as a response to Mitchell Johnson who took a shot at the veteran Australian opener before the start of the series and severely criticised Warner.
David Warner after the century has now opened up about his celebration and revealed that it was directed towards ‘critics’. Australian opener Warner said, “You saw what it was. It was a nice little quiet shush. It’s just anyone who wants to write stories about me and try to use headlines, get headlines, that stuff doesn’t bother me. It’s just the fact that I have to go out there and do what I have to do. And I’m allowed to celebrate how I want.”
Will David Warner mend relationship with Mitchell Johnson?
Broadcasters pressed David Warner on former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson and asked whether he would try to better the relationship between himself and Johnson. Warner replied, “Mitch is entitled to his opinion.” He also took Justin Langer’s article as a reference and added, “He’s a former player. You saw Justin Langer’s comments. He said he’s entitled to it. You can go back to Justin Langer’s comments and refer to them and so be it..”
Former Australian coach Justin Langer wrote a column in the controversy, “Johnson should have praised in public and criticise in private.” Johnson severely criticised David Warner in one of his columns and wrote that he is in the just because he is playing his final series for Australia in the red-ball format. Johnson also reopened old scars of the ‘sandpaper gate’ that brought huge disregard in Australian camp in 2018.
David Warner slammed his 26th overall test century and his 6th against Pakistan in just 17 innings in test cricket. Warner brought up his ton in just 125 balls and went on to complete 150 in 196 deliveries. Warner scored 164 runs in 211 balls with 16 fours and 4 huge sixes. Warner announced in June that he would be putting a curtain on his red-ball career after the three-match test series against Pakistan. Warner recently won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
