David Warner-led DC defeated KKR by 4 wickets to register their first win of the IPL 2023.

When you keep losing game after game, you tend to find a way of losing again from the winning position. This was the story of Thursday’s Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders game. Delhi were almost cruising for a comfortable win against KKR when David Warner was batting, but right after his wicket, Delhi pressed the panic button. Somehow they managed to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders in a tough run chase at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. DC won the game by 4 wickets. Due to rain and damp conditions, it was a low scoring yet interesting clash between the two teams. Batting first, KKR posted 127 runs on the board. Delhi with a 57 run inning from their Captain David Warner won their first game of the season.

Nitish Rana once again put onus on batters

KKR made 127 look like a mammoth total after Warner’s wicket. KKR Captain Nitish Rana, disappointed with the loss said, “We were 15-20 runs short and we knew the wicket was not easy… Credit to the bowlers, if they can even fight with this total”. Kolkata Knight Riders had a very poor batting performance against Delhi. Only two batters contributed to more than half of Delhi's total. Talking about batting Rana said, “I should have batted longer, and the time I got out was my wicket an important one for the team”. Nitish Rana scored just 4 runs. Jason Roy scored 43 and Andre Russell scored 38 runs for Kolkata.

A cheer for Delhi after 5 setbacks

Delhi Capitals opened their account in the points table with a win over KKR. Before this, they lost 5 back to back games in the IPL 2023. Winning after the 5 consecutive losses has made David Warner happy, and showing his emotions he said, “Great to get the two points it is awesome, Finally, We scrapped our way out of it. Over to Hyderabad now”. DC Bowlers put Capitals on the front against KKR with their superb line and they used the conditions to their favour as well. Warner was proud of the DC’s bowling attack, He said, “Really proud of the bowling unit. We did exceptionally well to get wickets in the Power Play”. Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, and Kuldeep Yadav all picked up 2 wickets each.

Making his comeback in the IPL, Ishant Sharma was awarded Player of the Match for his 4 over spell. Sharma bowled 4 overs and conceded only 19 runs to pick up 2 wickets. Happy with his performance Ishant Sharma said, “I was just waiting for my chance. I want to win a game for the team whenever I get a chance to Play”
