David Warner set to prioritize T20 league over national duty post retirement from test cricket

Australian opener David Warner is set to skip the white-ball series against West Indies.

Australian opener David Warner is currently playing final test series of his career against Pakistan. In the ongoing Boxing Day test, he made a small contribution of 6 runs to Australian scorecard in the second innings before being castled by Meer Hamza in the 6th over. David Warner is now left with only one test match in his career.

Australia will be playing the final test match of the series against Pakistan at Sydney Cricket Ground. After saying goodbye to his test career, David Warner is set to prioritize T20 league cricket over national duty. Warner is yet to confirm his retirement from white-ball cricket, but Warner will be skipping bilateral series to play in various franchise leagues.

David Warner to skip white-ball series against WI

David Warner is expected to miss the white-ball series against West Indies and will be heading to Dubai to take part in the ILT20 to play for Dubai Capitals. Warner has a deal with Dubai Capitals and the ILT20 dates are clashing with the white-ball leg of West Indies tour of Australia. West Indies will be playing 2 tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is in January and February.

Australia Cricketers’ Association (ACA) chief executive Todd Greenburg revealed that David Warner will be expected to carry a no objection certificate to play in the ILT20. Warner will also be taking part in Big Bash League after the test series against Pakistan, but Sydney Thunders are still unsure of Warner’s participation if they qualify for the knockout round in the ongoing BBL 2023-24.

According to few media reports, David Warner and a few other senior players were already informed that they will not be considered for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA. Warner will be taking part in Indian Premier League 2024 for Delhi Capitals, but he already had been informed about CA’s plan to go with a young squad in the mega T20 event next year.
