David Warner opens up on leadership ban, 'Can coach but I can't captain'

David Warner was banned from leadership after 2018 sandpaper scandal.
Veteran Australian opener David Warner recently announced his retirement from ODI cricket and also played his final test game of his career in Sydney. Warner’s international career is now over and he is heading towards a new era in his cricketing career. David Warner had a glorious international career but there were a few controversial points as well.
David Warner faced a 12 months playing career ban when he admitted his role in the sandpaper gate scandal in South Africa in 2018. Now, David Warner has opened up about his controversial leadership ban and expressed his discontent over the leadership restrictions imposed on him.
David Warner’s take on leadership ban
In an interview to Code Sports, David Warner said that he doesn’t understand the difference as he is allowed to coach Australia but not captain. Warner said, “Apparently, I will be able to coach if allowed to in Australia. But I can’t captain. So yeah, I’m not sure what it is. It’s under contract with Australia. It’s a leadership position, so I’m not sure; I just don’t know. It’s very bizarre.”
David Warner termed the situation ‘very bizarre’. He added, “What’s the difference between captaining and coaching? You’ve got more responsibility as a coach, wouldn’t you think so? It is very bizarre situation.” David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were banned for a certain period in cricket when Sandpaper Gate scandal opened up.
Former Australian opener David Warner also slammed the critics and said, “Whether it’s good or bad, I’m sleeping easy, and they’re all thinking about me, so I don’t know what their wives or husbands feel like when they’ve gone to bed, and they’re thinking about me.”
