Dawid Malan scored 140 runs against Bangladesh in their second game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

England opener Dawid Malan played a marvellous knock against Bangladesh in their second league game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Malan smashed his sixth ODI century at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala against Bangladesh. England are cruising in their innings as they aim for a massive total against Bangladesh bowlers. Along with Malan’s record-breaking knock, Joe Root and wicket-keeper batsmen Jonny Bairstow (52) have also contributed well with the bat.

Dawid Malan has broken a record with his 140-runs knock in Dharamsala. Malan is now the quickest batter to score six ODI centuries. He has completed this milestone in just 23 innings of his ODI career. Malan overtook Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq by four innings. Imam-ul-Haq scored his first six centuries in ODIs in 27 innings, while Malan has completed just 23 ODI innings. Shubman Gill is the quickest for India, with six centuries in 35 ODI innings.

Malan's new entrant in England's elite list

English opener also joined the elite list of Graham Gooch and Andrew Strauss. Malan has become only the third English batter to smash a century in a World Cup game played in India. Graham Gooch scored a century against India in the 1987 World Cup game played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Andrew Strauss scored a century against India at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in the 2011 World Cup.

Dawid Malan is the 8th English batter to have scored a century in the World Cup tournament. Before Malan, Denis Amiss (1975), Graham Gooch (1987), Andrew Strauss (2011), Moeen Ali (2015), Jason Roy (2019), Joe Root (2019), and Jonny Bairstow (2019 twice) have scored centuries for England in a World Cup game. Malan got the opportunity to replace Jason Roy as England's opener in the limited-overs format.

Dawid Malan has scored 140 runs on 107 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. He started fearlessly along with Jonny Bairstow (52) and added 115 runs for the opening wicket in 17 overs. Then he went on to put up 151 runs for the 2nd wicket, along with Joe Root (82) in 20 overs. This stand gave England a platform to aim for a huge total in Dharamsala. England lost their opening encounter against New Zealand.
