Days after rumours of death, Heath Streak passes away after losing battle to cancer

Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passed away aged 49.

On September 3, the cricket world lost former Zimbabwean cricketer Heath Streak. His passing has left his family and cricket fans worldwide in a state of sorrow. Despite recent false rumors regarding his death, this time, his family has verified the heartbreaking news.

Following his passing, Heath Streak's wife, Nadine, used social media to share a heartfelt message in remembrance of her husband. "In the early hours of this morning, Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home, where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones. He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity, Streaky. Till I hold you again," Nadine Streak wrote on Facebook.

A few weeks back, Heath Streak's former colleague, Henry Olonga, shared on social media that Streak had passed away. However, both Streak and Olonga later confirmed that this information was incorrect, and Olonga even issued an apology for his earlier post.

Heath Streak was widely considered one of Zimbabwe's finest cricketers to ever play the game, and his legacy in international cricket is truly exceptional. Whenever he represented his country, he did so with a unique style and grace. The entire cricket community will deeply grieve the passing of this esteemed icon of the sport.

Streak played 65 Test matches and 189 ODIs representing Zimbabwe, where he scored 1990 runs in Test cricket and 2943 runs in ODIs. However, what truly distinguished him was his exceptional bowling skills. He took 216 wickets in Test matches and 239 wickets in ODIs, making him Zimbabwe's leading wicket-taker of all time in both formats.
