Devon Conway took a stunning catch of Sarfaraz in the first IND vs NZ test in Bengaluru.

After losing the entire first day due to rain, the first IND vs NZ test kicked off on Thursday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Sarfaraz Khan was included in the team in place of Shubman Gill, who has neck stiffness.

New Zealand started the series in a blistering manner with fast bowlers Matt Henry, Tim Southee and William ORourke all breathing fire. Amid rain and overcast conditions, the Bengaluru pitch had acquired a lot of moisture that assisted the fast bowlers in generating plenty of seam and swing movement.

In the seventh over of India’s innings, the Indian skipper was back in the dressing room with Tim Southee crashing his leg stump. Virat Kohli followed him soon after giving the catch to leg gully off William ORourke.

Although New Zealand’s bowling has been great throughout the day, the most exceptional play of the day came in the 10th over of the game when Sarfaraz Khan chased a ball outside of his off-stump to play a drive. The connection with the bat was poor and the ball went to the right of Devon Conway at extra cover. Conway though pulled off a one-handed stunner by putting a full-stretched dive.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, India have lost three wickets in less than 10 overs with only 10 runs on the board.

India now face the daunting task of rebuilding the innings after the initial collapse. With the pitch assisting the fast bowlers India would look for a competitive total and later expect the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah to do what the New Zealand pacers have done.

Teams:

India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant(w), KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

New Zealand (Playing XI): Tom Latham (c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (w), Glenn Phillips, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, William ORourkee
