Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra enter elite list with centuries on ICC Cricket World Cup debut

Five New Zealand batsmen have hit centuries on ICC Cricket World Cup debut so far.

New Zealand have cruised through the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opening game against England at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. New Zealand have defeated England by nine wickets with almost 14 more overs to go in the game. Opener Devon Conway and all-rounder Rachin Ravindra had a record-breaking batting performance to give Blackcaps their memorable win in the World Cup opener. Defending champions England had a poor outing overall against New Zealand.

Opener Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra have also put their names in history books with their dominating knocks. Both batters entered an elite list of batters with centuries on their World Cup debut. Devon Conway became 15th, and Rachin Ravindra became the 16th batter in history to smash centuries on World Cup debut innings. Both of them were playing their debut game in the big ICC event. Glenn Turner, Nathan Astle and Scott Styris were the other three batters to score a century on World Cup debut until Conway and Ravindra hadn’t reached their respective hundreds.

They joined the list, which consists of some big names in world cricket. The list consists of some big names like Dennis Amiss, Glenn Turner, Allan Lamb, Nathan Astle, Andy Flower, Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch, and a few others. Including Conway and Ravindra, only 16 batters have scored a century in their World Cup debuts. Devon Conway also smashed a double century on his test debut against England at the Lord's. Conway smashed an unbeaten 92 runs against Australia in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Devon Conway completes 1000 ODI runs

Devon Conway also completed his 1000 ODI runs in his 22nd ODI inning with a 152-runs knock against England in the tournament opener. Conway is the 12th quickest to touch the 1,000-runs milestone. Fakhar Zaman holds the record for reaching the quickest 1000 runs in ODI cricket in 18 innings. Conway and Ravindra added the fourth-highest partnership in the World Cup - 273 runs. Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels (372) hold the record for the highest-ever partnership in a World Cup. They added 372 runs against Zimbabwe in 2015 World Cup.

Devon Conway scored 152 runs in 121 runs with 19 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Rachin Ravindra scored 123 runs on 96 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. Will Young was dismissed on a golden duck, and from there, these two batters took the charge and chased down 283 runs in the 37th over. New Zealand won the game by a huge margin and got a massive boost in their NRR. Batting first, England posted 282 runs on the board with the help of Joe Root’s 77-runs knock. Matt Henry (3/48) had a terrific day for New Zealand with the ball.
