Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will start their journey in Indian Premier League 2026 with a clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The encounter will take place on March 30 (Monday) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain CSK in IPL 2026, where they will aim for their record sixth title. Last season, they failed to qualify for the playoffs and ended in the last spot in the points table. They won just four games and lost 10 out of 14.

However, the Men-in-Yellow have suffered a big blow ahead of the tournament as one of their star players is set to miss the first few games.

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Revsportz, it is learned that Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the first two to three games of IPL 2026 due to side strain. His absence would hamper CSK’s middle-order at the start.

Brevis was retained by CSK for INR 2.20 crore for IPL 2026. Last season, he gave a brilliant performance for the team. He featured in six games, smacking 225 runs at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180.0. He also slammed two half-centuries.

Earlier this month, Brevis also played for South Africa in T20 World Cup 2026. The right-handed batter scored 207 runs in eight games at an average of 29.57 and a strike rate of 146.80. The Proteas lost the semi-final against New Zealand in the tournament.

Meanwhile, CSK are set to have a new pair of openers for IPL 2026 in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson. The five-time champions will be short of wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni in the initial games. He has been ruled out for at least two weeks after sustaining a calf strain during training.
