MS Dhoni-led CSK bought Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the IPL 2024 auction.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings surprised everyone when they picked Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman at his base price of just 2 crore INR. Bangladesh left-armer was bought by CSK in the accelerated auction process as he went unsold in the first phase. Rahman has been a constant name in the Indian Premier League and only Bangladeshi who has made his name with his magnificent performances in the world’s biggest league.
As soon as CSK bid successfully for Mustafizur Rahman, an old video resurfaced again and it went viral within a few minutes. Rahman had a bit of a ‘typical street clash’ as MS Dhoni explained when they both collided in an ODI game in India’s tour of Bangladesh after the IPL 2015. Bangladeshi left-armer made his international debut for Bangladesh in the same series and began his career with two consecutive five-wicket hauls against India.
Dhoni-Mustafizur had a collision
The incident happened during the first ODI between India and Bangladesh played at Sher-e-Bangla cricket stadium in Mirpur. In the 25th over of India’s chase, MS Dhoni played an off-drive and ran for a single, and Mustafizur Rahman was also keeping his eye on the ball making both of them come to the same position where they had a bit of collision that lead to a massive fan war between India and Bangladesh on social media.

MS Dhoni, when got aware of Mustafizur Rahman also moving in the same direction, pushed the Bangladeshi pace bowler a bit. Later on, both of them were fined for the collision. Dhoni was docked 75% of his match fee while Rahman was also fined 50% of his match fee after the incident. Both of them also clarified after the game that it was not intentional and happened only due to both heading in the same direction.
Team India lost the game by 79 runs while chasing 307 runs. Rahman had a memorable outing against India and he went on to pick his maiden five-wicket haul in a debut and bowled a magnificent spell of 5/50. Rahman continued his good work in the second game as well and picked up 6 wickets in the game. Rahman has played 48 IPL games and picked up 47 wickets in his career. CSK needed a pacer to strengthen their attack.
