Dinesh Karthik chose players from India’s two ICC T20 World Cup wins.
Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik selected India’s all-time ICC T20 World Cup starting lineup. Unexpectedly, Karthik did not select Rohit Sharma as the captain of India’s ICC T20 World Cup XI, despite including eight players from the side that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 under Sharma’s captaincy.
In addition to being the player with the most runs and hundreds in T20Is, Rohit owns the global record for most T20I victories as captain. He announced his retirement from T20Is following India’s victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup final.
Karthik included Rohit Sharma as an opener, alongside Virat Kohli, who was the Player of the Match in the final of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav, current captain of the Indian T20I team, will bat at three and will be followed by the legendary Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj Singh hammered six sixes in his 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, following it up with a 30-ball 70 against Australia in the semi-final to put India into the summit clash.
Dinesh Karthik snubs Rohit Sharma, names MS Dhoni as captain of his combined T20 World Cup XI

Dinesh Karthik named legendary MS Dhoni as captain of his combined T20 World Cup XI, and he’d also keep wickets. In the final of 2007 World Cup, which took place on September 24 at The Wanderers in Johannesburg, Men in Blue triumphed over Pakistan by a margin of five runs under his direction.
Harbhajan, who participated in all seven games in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and claimed seven wickets, was also selected from the victorious squad.
The remaining five players from India’s 2024 ICC T20 World Cup-winning squad—Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah—were able to secure spots in Karthik’s combined XI.
Hardik Pandya made 144 runs and took 11 wickets for India in their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 win. Bumrah picked up 15 wickets, including a match-winning spell against Pakistan, and was named the Player of the Tournament.
