Dwayne Bravo replaced Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise.
Gautam Gambhir, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) title as mentor, was replaced by former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo ahead of the IPL 2025.
Bravo stated on Thursday that his goal for the forthcoming IPL 2025 is to combine his original ideas with the successful elements of his predecessor’s strategy.
With Shreyas Iyer as captain, mentor Gambhir led KKR to their third IPL championship, ending their ten-year wait for a trophy. Dwayne Bravo, who has been tasked with replicating Gambhir’s success in the forthcoming season, compared his style to that of the former India batsman.
The West Indies legend revealed that he messaged Gambhir a few times, asked him a few questions, and stated that he aims to continue the good work done by him.
“Unfortunately, we lost some players. But I think GG had his style; I have my style. We’re both successful in our ways. Definitely, I messaged him a few times and stuff. But again, I will be leaning a lot on these guys because they had a successful formula. And we must follow that formula. I think it’s going to be disrespectful of me not to try and find out some of the good things he did last season. But also, the core of the team is here,” Bravo was quoted as saying by PTI.
Due to Shreyas Iyer’s decision to enter the auction and be purchased by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.5 crores, KKR will have a new captain for the forthcoming season. Experienced activist Ajinkya Rahane has been given leadership responsibilities by the team management, and Venkatesh Iyer has been named as his deputy.
Shah Rukh Khan is invested in the KKR’s game: Dwayne Bravo
As he accepted the coaching role across all teams inside the Knight Riders framework globally, Dwayne Bravo, the mentor of the KKR, talked candidly about his relationship with franchise owner Shah Rukh Khan.
He conveyed his appreciation to Shah Rukh Khan for making the effort to fund his Caribbean hometown franchise.
“It’s always good to have a boss like Shah Rukh who has really invested in the game. My first thing started off with the Trinbago Knight Riders when he bought the team. I was the happiest person on the planet to know that someone like him had shown that interest to buy a team not only in the Caribbean but also in my hometown,” Bravo said during a press conference.
After making a significant contribution to the support staff of the Afghanistan men’s cricket team and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Dwayne Bravo is gradually developing an amazing coaching resume.
