Ben Stokes feels Rishabh Pant is a very dangerous player.
England skipper Ben Stokes has heaped praise on Rishabh Pant ahead of the second test of the five-match test series. England Cricket Team and India Cricket Team will clash in the second test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, scheduled to commence on July 2.
India vice-captain Pant showed a stunning batting form in the first test at Headingley, Leeds. The left-handed batsman slammed centuries in both innings. He hammered a 134-run knock in the first innings and replicated his heroics in the second innings with a 118-run knock. However, his brilliant batting show went in vain as India eventually lost the match by five wickets.
Pant grabbed a lot of limelight with his batting show after breaking plenty of records. Reaching his eighth test ton in the match, Pant broke MS Dhoni’s record to become Indian wicket-keeper with most centuries in tests. The 27-year-old also became the first Indian batsman to score twin centuries in a test match in England.
I really enjoy watching Rishabh Pant play: Ben Stokes
During the pre-match press conference of the Edgbaston test, England skipper Stokes lauded Pant. He said that he loves watching Pant’s batting.
“I absolutely love watching Rishabh Pant play cricket, I love the way he takes it on, in all formats of the game. He has got a bit of stick in his time, but that type of talent, when you let that type of talent be free, that is what can happen, you know, last week,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
“But yeah, it is the sort of thing when you look back on last week and credit to him, two 100s in the game, we know we are going to get our chances with the way that Rishabh plays. So yeah, it is one of them, on a different day it could have looked a little bit different if one of those had gone straight off into a hand,” he added.
Stokes also believes Pant is a very dangerous player and a valuable member of the Indian team.
“But yeah, very dangerous player, we know what he brings to the Indian team, but I really enjoy watching Rishabh play cricket,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, England have retained the same playing XI for the second test. They lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning the opening game by five wickets. India are likely to make some changes in the playing XI. Some reports have alleged that Shubman Gill & Co. are expected to make some changes in the bowling unit, with Jasprit Bumrah being rested for the next clash.
