England lead the five-match ENG vs IND test series 1-0 after registering a win in the first game.

The first test between India Cricket Team and England Cricket Team concluded on Tuesday, June 24. The encounter took place at Headingley, Leeds. England had a target of 371 runs to chase in the fourth innings, which they chased with the help of a hundred from Ben Duckett (149) and half-centuries from Zak Crawley (65) and Joe Root (53)

Earlier on day 1, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. India delivered a marvellous batting show in the first innings, piling up 471/10. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) slammed a memorable century to register a ton in his first test match in England.

Later, Shubman Gill (147) and Rishabh Pant (134) followed up with stunning tons. For England, Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue picked four-wicket hauls. The hosts made a comeback with the bat, reaching 465/10 on the scoreboard.

Ollie Pope (106) and Harry Brook (99) scored brilliant knocks as Indian fielders dropped multiple catches in the innings. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a five-wicket haul to help India earn a six-run lead at the end of first innings. Prasidh Krishna hunted three wickets while Mohammed Siraj captured two scalps.

Pant (118) returned with another century in the second innings to script history, becoming the first Indian batsman to slam twin centuries in a test match in England. KL Rahul hammered 137 runs to help India reach 364 before losing all wickets, setting a 371-run target for England. With a victory in the Headingley test, the hosts lead the five-match series 1-0.

After the first test at Headingley, Leeds, India and England will travel to Birmingham for the second test at Edgbaston. The encounter will commence on July 2.

ENG vs IND 2025: Most runs

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant is the leading run-scorer in ENG vs IND 2025 test series after the Headingley test. Pant slammed centuries in both innings, hitting 252 runs in total. Ben Duckett, who smacked a marvellous 149 runs in the second innings, grabs the second place with 211 runs.

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill capture the third and fourth spots respectively. Both of them scored a century in the Headingley test. England opener Ollie Pope, who hammered a century in the first innings, occupies the fifth place.
