India defeated England by six runs in fifth ENG vs IND test to draw the series 2-2.

The fifth test of the five-match series between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team at The Oval, London, was a nail-biting one, where the Shubman Gill-led side captured a victory by just six runs. England had a target of 374 runs in the encounter, however, Mohammed Siraj took five wickets to restrict England for 367/10.

After being asked to bat first, India posted 224/10 with Karun Nair’s half-century. Later, England managed 247/10, gaining a 23-run lead. In response, India slammed 396/10 with help of a ton from Yashasvi Jaiswal and half-centuries from Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, setting the hosts a target of 374 runs.

Harry Brook and Joe Root slammed centuries for England during the chase, however, Indian bowlers made a fabulous comeback to win the encounter eventually. Mohammed Siraj won Player of the Match award for scalping nine wickets in the clash.

India register their narrowest victory in The Oval test

Fifth day of the test started with England needing 35 runs and India needing four wickets to win. However, the visitors were splendid with the ball as they dismissed the hosts and won the game by a narrow margin of six runs.

With a victory by just six runs in the encounter, India have registered their narrowest win (by runs) in test cricket. Their previous narrowest win in test cricket was by 13 runs against Australia, which came at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2004.

Meanwhile, with India’s victory in the fifth test, the five-match test series ended in a 2-2 draw. Earlier, England won the first test by five wickets and the third test by 22 runs. India won the second game by 336 runs, while the fourth test ended in a draw.

Shubman Gill and Harry Brook won Player of the Series awards for their wonderful batting show in the five-match series. Gill finished as the highest run-scorer of the series with 754 runs in 10 innings, including four centuries. Siraj finished as the highest wicket-taker of the series with 23 scalps.
