England rope in West Indies legend Kieron Pollard as assistant coach for ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Kieron Pollard will be assisting England cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

England suffered a shock 2-3 defeat against the spirited West Indies in the recently concluded five-match T20I series. West Indies outclassed the defending T20 World Cup champions, England. In a major inclusion in their support staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the USA, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Keiron Pollard as their assistant coach for the mega T20I event.

Kieron Pollard will be joining the English side during the T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in June next year. Pollard’s inclusion has been done keeping his local knowledge and expertise in the T20 format. Pollard is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers in the shortest format of the game. England will be a big beneficiary of his experience in the Caribbean conditions.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in an official statement announced Kieron Pollard’s joining as assistant coach and stated, “Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed to the England Men’s coaching team for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup… Pollard will join the England Men’s team specifically for the T20 World Cup as an assistant coach and to provide expertise of local conditions.”

This will be Kieron Pollard’s first assignment as assistant coach of a team. Pollard is also serving as Mumbai Indians’ batting coach in the Indian Premier League. Kieron Pollard is still involved in various T20 leagues and takes part as a player. Pollard still represents MI New York in Major League Cricket and MI Emirates in the International League T20.

Kieron Pollard is a two-time T20 World Champion. Pollard won the mega T20 event twice in his career, first instance was in 2012 in Sri Lanka and then in 2016 in India. Pollard played a vital role in West Indies’ campaign. Pollard has played 637 T20 games around the world and scored 12390 runs. He also picked up 312 wickets. He also served as leader of the West Indies T20I side as well as various teams in T20 leagues.
