Only three England bowlers have taken 200 or more wickets in ODI cricket.

England are one of the oldest nations to play international cricket. England were also part of the first ever One-Day International (ODI) match. They played it against Australia in 1971 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Since then, the Three Lions have produced many legendary cricketers in ODI format, who have lifted their nation’s cricketing status in the world. Among these, their bowlers have consistently made their mark in the team’s success.

On that note, let’s take a look at their highest wicket-takers in ODIs.

Top five bowlers with most wickets for England in ODI cricket:

5. Chris Woakes – 173 wickets

All-rounder Chris Woakes played his first ODI match against Australia in Sydney in January 2011. Since then, he has played a crucial role for his nation in this format of the game.

Apart from scoring crucial runs with the bat, Woakes has consistently delivered with the ball. The 35-year-old has taken 173 wickets in 122 ODI matches till now. The veteran has picked 11 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls in his ODI career.

4. Stuart Broad – 178 wickets

Stuart Broad is one of the greatest seamers to represent England in international cricket. The right-handed seamer made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Cardiff in 2006. Broad played his last ODI game against South Africa in Cape Town in 2016.

In his 10-year-long ODI career, Broad played 121 matches for his nation. He took 178 wickets at an average of 30.13. He picked nine four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

3. Adil Rashid – 201 wickets

Adil Rashid is recognized as one of the finest leg-spinners to play for England. Rashid is the only spin bowler to take 200 or more wickets for England in ODI cricket till now.

The 36-year-old has taken 201 wickets in 137 ODIs at an average of 32.22. The veteran has claimed eight four-wicket hauls and two fifers in this format.

2. Darren Gough – 234 wickets

Former England bowler Darren Gough is second highest wicket-taker for England in ODI cricket. Gough made his ODI debut against New Zealand in Birmingham in May 1994 and played his last match against Pakistan at the Lord’s in September 2006.

The right-arm speedster played 159 ODI matches for his nation. Gough claimed 235 wickets at a decent bowling average of 26.42. He took 10 four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in his ODI career.

James Anderson is one of the legendary bowlers to play test and ODI cricket. He is England’s highest-wicket taker in both test and ODI cricket so far.

Talking about ODI cricket, Anderson produced many match-winning performances for his nation. In 194 matches, the legendary seamer bagged 269 wickets at a decent bowling average of 29.22. The right-arm speedster claimed 11 four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in his illustrious career from 2002 to 2015.
