England to host Zimbabwe for a 4-day test match in 2025

Zimbabwe will be travelling to England in 2025 after 22 years gap for a test match.
With their 2023 home season almost over, England and Wales Cricket Board have started planning for the 2025 season. England have announced that they will be playing a 4-day test match against Zimbabwe at the beginning of the home summer next year. England will be taking on Zimbabwe in the season opener on May 28, 2025. This will be a historic tour, as Zimbabwe will be travelling to England for the first time since their resumption of test cricket. They will be landing in London to play a Test match after 22 years.
Historical tour for Zimbabwe Cricket
After deciding on the tour, Zimbabwe’s Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said, “The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be emphasised, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the ECB for committing to the resumption of cricketing relations between our countries that date back to the introduction of the game in Zimbabwe in the 1890s.” They are not part of the World Test Championship tournament, along with Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
ECB Chief executive officer, Richard Gould, also gave his thoughts on the development. Gould said, “We are committed to developing a closer relationship with Zimbabwe Cricket, and the announcement of this test against our men’s team is a step in that direction. This summer’s Ashes series showcased all that is great about Test Cricket, and while we must be mindful of the demands of World Cricket’s schedule, we also want to help grow Test Cricket and find opportunities to play more nations where we can.”
Zimbabwe last played a test match against England in 2003. England’s leading wicket-taker James Anderson also made his debut in test cricket in that series. England thrashed the visitors by 2-0 in the 2-match series played at The Lord’s and at the Riverside Ground in Chester Le Street. Since their resumption in Test Cricket, Zimbabwe have been a growing side in test cricket. England started the 2023 home summer season with a one-off test against Ireland at The Lord’s. England have also played a 4-day test against Ireland in 2021.
