England Women players in dilemma over WPL and national duty choice

WPL season two will begin on 23rd February.

The second season of the Women’s Premier League will begin on 23rd February. WPL 2024 will be played in two phases, the first phase will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While the knockouts and final 10 league matches will be played in Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.

The knockout phase of the WPL 2024 will commence on 15th March with an eliminator game between second and third placed team. Finals will be played between first placed side and and winner of the eliminator match on 17th March. England cricketers are in dilemma over WPL and country choices as England are scheduled to play against New Zealand in a bilateral series when WPL knockout will start. .

England to take on New Zealand

England Women’s team will be travelling to New Zealand for a five-match T20I series in March. The first of the five T20I match will be played on 19th March at University Oval in Dunedin. While the WPL season two finals will be played on 17th March. It will be impossible for English player to travel and feature in the first game against New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed players participating in Women’s Premier League to stay in India as they will not be considered for selection in first three T20I games. England will announce the squad for bilateral series in next week. England will be taking on New Zealand in five T20Is and three ODIs in the tour.

A total of seven English players will be featuring in the Women’s Premier League. Alice Capsey, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Kate Cross, Heather Knight, Sophie Ecclestone, Danni Wyatt, and Jon Lewis will be taking part in the WPL season two. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League after defeating Delhi Capitals in the finals which was played at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
