The South Africa T20 League (SA20) has taken giant steps at the franchise level, and it is growing every year. The auction ahead of the upcoming season was held in Johannesburg on Tuesday (9th September), and it broke all the previous records.
A total of 541 were shortlisted to go under the hammer, which included 300 South African players and 241 overseas cricketers. Pretoria Capitals went into the action with the biggest purse of USD 1.86 million, and they didn’t hold back.
South African captain Temba Bavuma and James Anderson were among the big names who went unsold, but there were a few that bagged a million-dollar deal. Here we will talk about the top ten biggest buys of the SA20 2026 auction.

10. Quinton de Kock (R2.4 Million) – Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Quinton de Kock is one of the biggest names to feature at the top. After playing three seasons for Durban’s Super Giants, De Kock went into the auction and was picked by the two-time champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R2.4 million (INR 1.2 crores) as a marquee pick. Though it looks slightly less than what he offers, he is still one of the costliest players at the SA20 2026 auction.
9. Anrich Nortje (R5 Million) – Sunrisers Eastern Cape
South African speedster Anrich Nortje didn’t take part in the last two seasons due to injury. He played for Pretoria Capitals in the first edition. He is expected to be back for the SA20 2026 and was at the auction. He was signed by the two-time champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R5 million (INR 2.5 crores).
8. Ottneil Baartman (R5.10 Million) – Paarl Royals
Fast bowlers are one of the hottest prospects in auctions; that’s what we have seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. Ottneil Baartman also bagged a massive deal. After playing a crucial role for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in two championship wins, he parted ways. There were a few franchises that were interested in him, and eventually, the Paarl Royals bagged him for R5.10 million (INR 2.57 crores).
7. Rassie van der Dussen (R5.20 Million) – MI Cape Town
Veteran South African star Rassie van der Dussen is known for his calm and composed attitude with the bat. He was with MI Cape Town for the first three seasons and made an impact in the last season, which they won. He scored 393 runs at an average close to 50. Though he was released by the MI franchise, they rebought him for a price of R5.20 million (INR 2.60 crores).
6. Matthew Breeztke (R6.10 Million) – Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Matthew Beeztke is one name you must have heard most recently because of the start he had in ODIs. He became the first player ever to score five 50+ scores in the first five innings of career in ODI cricket. That has certainly helped him to increase his price at the auction. After playing three seasons for the Durban’s Super Giants, he will be donning the jersey of two-time champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape after signing for a price of R6.10 million (INR 3 crores).
5. Nandre Burger (R6.30 Million) – Joburg Super Kings
Nandre Burger made his SA20 debut for Joburg Super Kings and played two seasons for them. He played 16 games and took 13 wickets. But his recent performances at the international level have been pretty impressive. He has been picked for JSK once again for a price of R6.30 million (INR 3.20 crores).
4. Gerald Coetzee (R7.40 Million) – Durban Super Giants
Gerald Coetzee has started his international career with good success and has been part of the IPL for the last two seasons. He was with Joburg Super Kings for the last two SA20 seasons and had taken 19 wickets in just ten games. He will now be with the Durban’s Super Giants, who bagged him for R7.40 million (INR 3.73 crores).
3. Wiaan Mulder (R9 Million) – Joburg Super Kings
Wiaan Mulder is one of the most promising all-format all-rounders in the South African team. He recently made history when he scored an unbeaten 367 in a test innings. His success in the last year or so has been impressive, which has helped him bag a massive deal of R9 million (INR 4.50 crores) from Joburg Super Kings. Earlier, he spent three seasons with Durban’s Super Giants.
2. Aiden Markram (R14 Million) – Durban Super Giants
South African T20I captain and the man who led Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final for three consecutive seasons, winning two of them, Aiden Markram, was one of the top names to feature at the SA20 2026 auction. Him parting ways with his franchise was big news.
As soon as his name came up, almost all franchises were interested in having him. Eventually, Durban’s Super Giants made the winning bid worth R14 million (INR 7 crores), and Markram is expected to lead the side in the coming season. He earned three and a half times his IPL 2025 price.
1. Dewald Brevis (R16.50 Million) – Pretoria Capitals
Pretoria Capitals went into the SA20 2026 auction with the biggest purse, and they certainly used it very well. The Capitals went hard for Dewald Brevis and made him the most experienced player at the SA20 auction history.
Brevis, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction and was later signed by CSK as a replacement, has been incredible since last year. He did an amazing job in the IPL and at the international level as well. That helped him earn a record-breaking deal of R16.50 million (INR 8.30 crores).
