It was expected that Babar would do well in the recently concluded two-match test series against Bangladesh, but the veteran batter failed to make significant impact. The poor show in the whole series extended his streak of not scoring a test fifty for 600 plus days.
In the first test against Bangladesh, Babar got out on 0 and 22. In the second match, the right-handed batter scored 31 and 11 in both outings. Overall, the 29-year-old managed only 64 runs in two matches at a poor average of 16.00.
Following Pakistan’s shambolic test series defeat against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, several posts went viral on social media claiming Babar has announced his retirement from test cricket. This viral post spread like wildfire on social media handles, as many cricket fans were left in disbelief.
Fact Check: Has Babar Azam retired from test cricket?
No, Babar Azam hasn’t announced retirement from test cricket. When Khel Now fact-checked the viral posts on twitter claiming that the Pakistan white-ball captain has called his time on test cricket career, the posts were found on parody accounts on X (formerly Twitter) claiming to be Babar Azam’s official statements.
In real, the 29-year-old hasn’t made any statement on his career. Hence, the posts circulating on social media claiming to be retirement calls of Babar Azam can be called fake.

Bangladesh script history in Rawalpindi by defeating Pakistan in a test series for the first time
After winning the second test by six wickets on September 3rd, the Najmul Hasan Shanto-led Bangladesh created history as they defeated Pakistan for the first time in a test series.
Earlier, Bangladesh crushed hosts Pakistan in the opening fixture by 10 wickets and won their first ever test game against the Asian giants.
Notably, this is also Bangladesh’s third test series win away from home. Overall, Bangladesh have eight wins in overseas test matches – two each against the West Indies, Zimbabwe and Pakistan and one each against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
