Faf du Plessis praises GT batsman Shubman Gill after RCB crash out of IPL 2023

Faf du Plessis-led RCB faced defeat in hands of GT in their last match of the IPL 2023.

There was a battle of two outstanding innings at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli smacked brilliant centuries in the game but Gill prevailed as a winner and gave a knockout punch to Royal Challengers Bangalore. For the first time in the IPL history, three centuries were scored in a day. First, it was Cameron Green for MI against SRH, then Virat Kohli and at the end of the day, Shubman Gill smashed his 2nd of this season. Royal Challengers needed a win to make a place in playoffs, but Gill (104*) and Vijay Shankar (53) broke the dreams of RCB and their fans. RCB put up 197 on the board with Virat's 101 runs knock. 

'It was an amazing 100 from Shubman,' says Faf

Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill had a controlled aggression in his inning and he took only 52 balls to reach his century, which at the end proved crucial for Titans. After RCB’s loss, Mumbai Indians have qualified for the playoffs as the number 4 team. RCB captain Faf du Plessis was disappointed and said, “Very disappointed. We played a really strong side tonight, an amazing hundred from Shubman”. Faf du Plessis talked about Shubman Gill and his brilliant century. Faf added, “Shubman batted really well to take the game away from us”. 

Pandya feels it was a different Shubman Gill today

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya was extremely pleased with the Titans' efforts to win the game in a tough chase. Captain Hardik said, “The calmness which the boys had was terrific. We wanted to keep the momentum going and we have ticked a lot of boxes”. He also praised Shubman Gill. Pandya said, “He knows when he plays those cricketing shots, it’s a different Shubman Gill. He doesn’t give any chances, and that gives others a lot of confidence”. Gill smashed 5 fours and 8 sixes. 

Shubman feels he is going in good form

Shubman Gill was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant batting to take Gujarat Titans home in a mammoth run chase. This is his second century in the IPL 2023. Talking about his performance, Gill said, “I am in good form, it’s about getting a start and converting it into a big one. It’s all working out for me at the business end of the tournament…. I know my game, I keep building on it”. Gujarat Titans will play Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
