Fan breaches security and hugged Virat Kohli to show support to Palestine in IND vs AUS CWC 2023 final

A fan breaches the security to stop action in World Cup final between Indian and Australia in Ahmedabad to hug Virat Kohli.

After a magnificent start from captain Rohit Sharma, Indian batting line-up had a bit of a collapse. Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer departed in quick succession to give Australia a chance to come back in the finals. Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad is jam-packed with people wearing blue jerseys. The entire ground was stunned in silence when Australia made a roaring comeback into the game with two quick wickets.

Right after Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli took the matter into their own hands and were cautious in their approach to begin a partnership. In the 14th over, a fan managed to breach the security and went directly to the pitch side. This made the game halt for 5 minutes, and security managed to drag the fan away from the action. The game was resumed right after the fan was dragged back.

Fan with ‘Stop Bombing Palestine’ message

Fans managed to get close to Indian batter Virat Kohli, who was batting alongside KL Rahul, and hugged him from behind. The fan wanted to bring everyone’s attention to the ongoing Israel and Palestine conflict. The fan had a t-shirt with the message ‘Stop Bombing Palestine’. A Palestinian flag face mask was also on his face. Virat Kohli tried his best to avoid him, but when the security personnel came in, he reached closer to the Indian batter.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma provided a splendid start to team India as India scored 80 runs in the first powerplay. Rohit Sharma departed after playing a magnificent knock of 47 runs off 31 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. He also set a new record by overtaking Kane Williamson. Rohit Sharma now has the most runs as a captain in one World Cup edition. Rohit finished the World Cup 2023 with 597 runs; the previous record was held by Kane Williamson with 578 runs.

Team India lost three wickets, Shubman Gill could only manage to score four runs and was caught by Adam Zampa in the mid-on region. Rohit Sharma also perished while attempting a big shot against Glenn Maxwell but was caught by Travis Head in the cover. Shreyas Iyer was exposed by Australian captain Pat Cummins and was caught behind the wicket on just the 4-run mark. Team India have scored 146 runs in 28 overs with 3 wickets down.
