Watch: Fans chant Virat Kohli's name infront of Naveen Ul Haq during BAN vs AFG ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match in Dharamsala

Naveen ul Haq will be bowling to Virat Kohli on Wednesday when India take on Afghanistan in Delhi.

Afghanistan had a disappointing beginning to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they were defeated by Bangladesh in Dharamshala. Afghanistan’s batting couldn’t put up a spirited performance against Bangladesh in the game and fell short by six wickets. It was a tough outing for Afghanistan fielders, as Bangladesh didn’t have to do much in the game. Naveen Ul Haq was making his comeback after a short injury break.

Afghanistan pace bowler Naveen ul Haq had to go through a little trolling as well at Dharamshala. Fans present in the stands taunted Naveen ul Haq with Virat Kohli’s chant whenever he was positioned closer to the boundary line. A video has gone viral on social media where fans can be heard chanting ‘Kohli… Kohli…’ when Naveen was fielding close to the boundary line. This went on through Bangladeshi chase.

What happened between Naveen and Virat?

There is a history between Naveen ul Haq and Virat Kohli that ignited a huge, controversial tussle between the two. In an IPL 2023 game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants, Virat Kohli sledged Naveen ul Haq when Naveen was walking in to bat in a close, low-scoring chase. Later on, they fired a few words at each other and refused to shake hands post-match. This made Lucknow mentor Gautam Gambhir get involved as well.

Naveen ul Haq, Virat Kohli, and Gautam Gambhir were all imposed a heavy fine after the incident, and this became a big controversial moment in Indian Premier League history as well. Naveen also shared an Instagram story to tease Virat Kohli when Mumbai Indians chased down 200 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium. Naveen’s story was indirectly a dig at former Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Naveen ul Haq bowled five overs in the game against Bangladesh and picked up a wicket. He conceded 33 runs in his spell. Naveen ul Haq will be bowling against Virat Kohli at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi on October 11. India will be taking on Afghanistan on Wednesday after their opening game against Australia in Chennai. Naveen ul Haq will retire from the ODI format after the World Cup 2023.
