IND vs ENG: Fans criticize Shubman Gill following yet another flop show in tests

Shubman Gill scored 23 runs against England in the first innings of Hyderabad test.
Shubman Gill looked stuck while taking on English bowlers at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Gill scored 23 runs during his 66-ball stay at the crease in the first innings of the ongoing first test. Since shifting himself down to the number three position, Gill has failed to play a big knock for India in test cricket. He was caught at mid-wicket by Ben Duckett off debutant Tom Hartley.
Right-hand Indian batter tried to attempt a pull shot against Tom Hartley, but failed to get a proper connection. Ben Duckett was ready with his sharp reflexes to take an easy catch at mid-wicket. Unhappy Indian fans have outraged over Shubman Gill’s yet another failure in test cricket. Shubman Gill recently replaced the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara at the number three position in the batting-order .
Shubman Gill’s fails at number three position
The 24-year-old Indian batter had a terrific 2023 in limited-overs cricket and played many sublime knocks in ODI and T20I cricket. Gill failed to replicate the same performance in test cricket. He was asked to move down to the number three position in India’s batting-order during India’s tour of West Indies in 2023, when Team India dropped Cheteshwar Pujara. Since then he has not scored a fifty-plus knock in test cricket despite getting a decent start.
Shubman Gill has scored 189 runs in nine innings at the number three position. Gill scored a century for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played earlier in 2023 against Australia but couldn’t carry that performance after the World Test Championship final. Against South Africa, Gill scored 74 runs in four innings and against West Indies he scored 45 runs in three innings. His batting average in test cricket is 30.58 in 37 innings. Here is how fans reacted to Gill’s innings.
Shubman Gill was recently awarded Polly Umrigar Trophy for his magnificent show with the bat at International cricket in season 2022-23. Team India have gone past the 200 run-mark with the loss of three wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma (24), Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) and Shubman Gill (23) have been dismissed by English bowlers. England posted 246 runs in the first innings. Ben Stokes was the top-scorer for England with 70 runs.
