Akash Deep scored a half-century in the second innings of The Oval test.

Indian pacer Akash Deep played a brilliant innings with the bat in the ongoing fifth test between the Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team at The Oval, London. Akash slammed a half-century in second innings of the match to put his team in a dominant position.

Towards the end of day two, Akash was sent as a nightwatchman at number four in the second innings. Smacking 12 fours during his innings, he scored 66 runs off 94 deliveries. Indian players and the crowd at The Oval stadium gave him a standing ovation when he reached his half-century in the first session on day three.

He etched a crucial 107-run stand for the third wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal and put England under pressure. Akash Deep was eventually dismissed by pacer Jamie Overton after scoring his first test fifty.

“Akash Deep” became a trending topic on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after his brilliant cameo with the bat. Many fans hailed the Indian pacer for his spectacular knock. Some fans also shared hilarious memes on X.

Akash picked up one wicket for 80 runs across his 17 overs in the first innings. So far, he has captured 12 wickets in three games at an average of 32.42. He was ruled out of the fourth test due to a groin injury.

Talking about The Oval test, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter. India failed to put a big total in the first innings, getting out for 224 runs with a half-century by Karun Nair (57).

Zak Crawley (64) and Harry Brook (53) hammered fifties to power England to 247/10 in the first innings, earning a 23-run lead. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna scalped four wickets each for the visotors to demolish England batters. In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal has also scored a half-century for India.
