Joe Root slammed his 40th hundred in test cricket.
The Australian curse has finally ended for England Cricket Team batter Joe Root as he registered his first-ever ton in test cricket in Australia. He achieved the feat in the second game of Ashes 2025-26 at the Gabba in Brisbane, which is hosting the pink-ball match.
England, who won the toss and opted to bat, had a poor start with the bat as they lost two wickets early. It was then that Joe Root took the responsibility and steadied the innings with his calm and composed batting under tough conditions.
Joe Root first hit a solid fifty and then made sure that he didn’t give away his wicket as he has over the last few years of his career in Australia. Despite the wickets falling at the other end, he showed great composure and kept on piling runs for his team.
Joe Root then finally hit a staggering century and lifted the monkey off his back. This was his first-ever test ton in Australia and it came at a time when England needed it most with them being already 1-0 down in the series.

This was his 40th hundred in test cricket is just 11 tons away from breaking the great man’s Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 51 centuries. Root’s ton also came as big news for Matthew Hayden as well as he made a huge comment ahead of the Ashes 2025-26.
He had said that if Joe Root doesn’t hit a century this time around in Australia, he would run naked around the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
