India lost the three-match ODI series 2-1.
Australia opted to bat first after winning the toss, having already sealed the ODI series with victories in Perth and Adelaide. India made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Mitchell Marsh scored 41, while Matt Renshaw contributed 56 as Australia was bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs. At one stage, they looked on course for a total well beyond 280, but India’s spinners turned things around with tight spells in the middle overs. Harshit Rana starred with figures of 4 for 39, and Washington Sundar chipped in with two wickets.
India, desperate to avoid a whitewash, needed their batters to step up—and they did just that. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the team a strong start, adding 69 runs for the first wicket. Josh Hazlewood broke the stand by removing Gill for 24, paving the way for Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated arrival at the Sydney Cricket Ground to a thunderous reception.

Kohli looked delighted after getting off the mark, while Rohit dominated the Australian attack with trademark flair. The Indian skipper brought up a magnificent century off 105 balls, as Kohli supported him with a fluent fifty from 56 deliveries.
Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 121 in 125 balls with 13 fours and three sixes, while Virat Kohli made 74* in 81 balls with seven fours to his name. Their partnership was 168* as India won the game by 9 wickets in 38.3 overs.
While Australia won the series 2-1, India managed to save a whitewash with a 9-wicket win. It was also great to watch both the veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting amongst runs after primary failures.
