Yuzvendra Chahal was denied his last over by captain Hardik Pandya in the second T20I against West Indies.

Hardik Pandya, the Indian captain, came down for some heavy criticism by Team India fans, as the Men in Blue lost the second T20I of the five-match series to West Indies in Guyana and went 0-2 down in the series.

On August 6, 2023, the second Twenty20 International between West Indies and India was played in the Providence stadium in Guyana. West Indies had taken a 1-0 series lead thanks to their 4-run victory in the first match in Trinidad.

Kuldeep Yadav was reported to be out injured and replaced by Ravi Bishnoi after Hardik Pandya won the toss and made the right decision to bat first.

Tilak Varma, who batted for India and reached his first T20I fifty in just his second game, carried the load offensively. Ishan Kishan (27) and Hardik Pandya (24) contributed to the final score of 152/7 as West Indies bowlers enjoyed themselves on a challenging surface.

Romario Shepherd, Alzarri Joseph, and Akeal Hosein secured two wickets.

Brandon King and Johnson Charles were both out in the first over itself thanks to Hardik Pandya, who gave India the perfect start. After that, Arshdeep Singh dismissed Kyle Mayers for 15 runs, but Nicholas Pooran launched a counteroffensive.

With six fours and four sixes, including an 18-run over off Ravi Bishnoi, he scored 67 in 40 balls. While Mukesh Kumar fired him, Yuzvendra Chahal reinstated India by firing Shimron Hetmyer (22) and Jason Holder.

Hardik Pandya needed to take out Chahal with only 24 runs remaining, but he chose to bowl Mukesh Kumar and Arshdeep Singh instead. It was also remarkable when Ravi Bishnoi scored 31 runs in his four overs while Hardik Pandya failed to dismiss Akshar Patel for a single over.

In the end, the decision came back to haunt India as Akeal Hosein (16*) and Alzarri Joseph (10*) made merry against the fast bowlers and took West Indies home with 2 wickets in hand and 7 balls to spare.

With this victory, the hosts also went 2-0 up in the series with the third T20I also to be played in Guyana on August 8.

Meanwhile, Indian cricket fans on social media were not happy with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and decision-making skills, especially not bowling out Chahal and not utilizing Axar Patel at all.

Here’s how fans reacted to India’s loss in the second T20I against West Indies:
