The Australian cricket team was part of the first-ever test match that was played in 1877. Over the 148-year history of test cricket, Australia have become the most successful team, having recorded over 400 test match wins.

Australia have boasted several of the greatest players of all time in both batting and bowling departments. Talking about their batting might, Australia have amassed the second-most runs and second-most centuries in test cricket, behind only England on both tallies.

5. David Warner – 82 balls vs West Indies, 2016

At his home ground, the SCG in Sydney, David Warner blasted an 82-ball century against West Indies in 2016. Batting first, West Indies were bowled out for 330 runs.

In Australia’s first innings, David Warner came out all guns blazing to smash 122* runs off 103 balls. His knock included 11 fours and a couple of sixes.

The match ended in a draw due to heavy rains but Warner did provide plenty of entertainment when he was at the crease.

4. David Warner – 78 balls vs Pakistan, 2017

David Warner has a stellar record at the SCG and this includes a 78-ball ton against Pakistan in 2017. Batting first, Warner and Renshaw posted an opening stand of 151 runs, of which Warner scored 113 runs off 95 balls, cracking 17 fours in his knock.

Renshaw went on to score 184 and Australia amassed 538 runs. Australia took a hefty lead and in their second innings, Warner hammered 55 runs off 27 balls. Chasing a huge target of 465 runs, Pakistan were knocked over for 244, losing by 220 runs. Warner duly bagged the Man of the Match award.

3. David Warner – 69 balls vs India, 2012

This was Warner’s second century in test cricket. It came off only 69 balls against India in Perth in 2012. India were bowled out for 161 runs in their first innings.

In reply, Australia were bumped to 369 by Warner’s blistering knock of 180 runs off 159 balls. This sizzling innings from the southpaw included 20 fours and five sixes.

India got bundled for 171 in their second innings, losing the test by an innings and 37 runs.

2. Jack Gregory – 67 balls vs South Africa, 1921

Jack Gregory’s 67-ball century was an outlier in the 20th century and it stands as the fifth-fastest century in test cricket right now. It was the fastest test century at the time.

He attained this feat against South Africa in Johannesburg in 1921. Batting first, Gregory, batting at No. 4, cracked a 67-ball century, and eventually scored 119 runs while staying at the crease for 85 minutes. He creamed 19 fours and two sixes in his innings.

The match ended in a draw.

1. Adam Gilchrist – 57 balls vs England, 2006

With his 57-ball century against England in Perth in the 2006/07 Ashes, Adam Gilchrist holds the record for the fastest century by an Australian batsman in test cricket. This is also the fourth-fastest century in tests of all-time.

After the first innings of both teams, the match was evenly poised with the hosts having a slender lead of 29 runs. But Gilchrist’s heroics in the second innings, which saw him belt 12 fours and four sixes in 59 deliveries for his 102* runs, put Australia in command as they set a target of 557 runs.

England were knocked over for 350 runs and lost the game by 206 runs.
