Sachin Tendulkar was the first Indian batsman to hit a double century in men’s ODI cricket.

India are known for their rich history of producing high-quality batsmen in all formats. While India have at times endured challenges and transitions in test cricket and T20Is, their journey in ODI cricket has been much smoother.

Though India haven’t won a 50-over ICC tournament since 2013, they have been consistent in bilateral series and have reached the semi-finals of every 50-over ICC event since 2011.

Indian batsmen have played a big role in the team’s dominance, which includes two ODI World Cup trophies. The Asian giants have chased down big totals, and also out-batted teams in the first half of the game itself.

Indi have produced the highest number of ODI double centurions in men’s cricket. Five different Indian batsmen have struck an ODI double ton, with one of them doing it on multiple occasions.

On that note, let’s take a look at the top five fastest double centuries by Indian batsmen in ODI cricket.

Top five fastest double centuries (200) by Indian batsmen in ODI cricket:

5. Rohit Sharma (151 balls, Twice) vs Sri Lanka, 2014 and 2017

Rohit Sharma is the only player with three double centuries in ODIs. His second double century came against Sri Lanka in 2014 in Kolkata, where he scored 264 runs with 33 fours and nine sixes. He reached the 200-run mark in 151 balls.

He repeated his heroics against Sri Lanka once again in 2017 in Mohali, again reaching his double century in 151 balls. His unbeaten 208 helped India secure a comfortable 141-run win.

4. Sachin Tendulkar (147 balls) vs South Africa, 2010

One of India’s all-time greats, Sachin Tendulkar made history in Gwalior in 2010 when he became the first batsman to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket.

Batting first, Sachin toyed with the South African bowling attack and racked up 200* runs in 147 balls. His innings, which included 25 fours and three sixes, helped India win the game by 153 runs.

Tendulkar was named Player of the Match for his historic knock.

3. Shubman Gill (145 balls) vs New Zealand, 2023

Youngster Shubman Gill joined the elite list of double centurions in ODI cricket in January 2023 in Hyderabad.

The Punjab batter smashed 208 runs off 149 balls, with 19 fours and nine sixes. The opener racked up his double century in 145 balls to register India’s third-fastest double hundred in ODIs.

India won the game by 12 runs and Gill was awarded Player of the Match.

2. Virender Sehwag (140 balls) vs West Indies, 2011

Known for his dominance across formats, Virender Sehwag became the second Indian to score an ODI double century after Sachin Tendulkar. He achieved this feat against the West Indies in 2011 in Indore.

Opening the innings, Sehwag took full advantage of the good batting conditions in Indore and blasted 219 runs off 149 balls with 25 fours and seven sixes. He brought up his double century in 140 balls.

1. Ishan Kishan (126 balls) vs Bangladesh, 2022

Wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan holds the record for scoring the fastest double century by an Indian batsman in ODI cricket. He achieved this feat against Bangladesh in 2022 in Chattogram.

Opening the batting, Kishan smashed 210 runs off 131 balls, hitting 24 fours and 10 sixes. He reached his double century off 126 balls. His 126-ball 200 is also the fastest double hundred in ODI cricket.
