Watch: India fielding coach uses new way to present "Best fielder" medal to KL Rahul
KL Rahul became first Indian player to win "Best fielder" medal twice during the World Cup 2023.
Team India have been superb in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where they have beaten all the opposition in a comprehensive manner. That is why they are at the top of the points table with 12 wins and are certain to make it to the next round. On Sunday, India registered their sixth win when they beat defending champion England by 100 runs at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
India had a tough time with the bat, but Rohit Sharma's 87 took India to a decent total of 229. KL Rahul (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (49) also made good contributions. But then, the bowlers closed out, and the English batters looked clueless against India's disciplined bowling attack. India were also good on the field, and everyone was looking sharp, which put more pressure on England.
Watch: Fielding Coach's unique style to announce "Best fielder" medal to KL Rahul
The Indian team management has introduced a "best fielder" medal, which is given after the game to the player who has been excellent throughout the game. Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer have already won one medal each, while KL Rahul was awarded the medal last night in Lucknow. With this, he became the first Indian player to win the medal twice.
Notably, he was the only Indian player to complete a catch against England because most of the English batters got out bowled, stumped and LBW. The Indian management earlier made the announcement of the medal winner through a spider-cam, but this time they took it one step ahead. Fielding coach T. Dilip took all the team and staff members outside the dressing room, and all the floodlights went dark, and suddenly KL Rahul's name and jersey illuminated to announce the winner.
