The current Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, is likely to play his final ODI World Cup in 2023. The 36-year-old made his ODI debut in 2007. While he was batting down the order in his initial years, he has been a mainstay in the Indian team ever since he began to open the innings in 2013. The Indian opener, who missed out on the 2011 home World Cup, will be keen to end his ODI career on a high by helping India lift the cup for the third time. Rohit Sharma has featured in 244 ODIs and notched up 9837 runs with an average close to 49.

2. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is yet another legend who could very well be playing his final ODI World Cup. The 34-year-old might opt to retire from ODIs and even stick to any one format in the upcoming days. Kohli is one of the Indian players who also featured in the 2011 World Cup-winning team. Also, this will be his fourth ODI World Cup. The former Indian captain has featured in 274 ODIs and scored 12,898 runs, including 46 centuries and 65 half-centuries.

3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja made his ODI debut in 2009 and has evolved as one of the best all-rounders from India. Notably, he was the leading wicket-taker in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, which was the final ICC trophy won by the Indian men’s team. The 34-year-old could be playing his final ODI World Cup and will look to help India lift the trophy. The all-rounder has featured in 177 ODIs and has 2560 runs, 194 wickets.

4. Mohammad Shami

Mohammad Shami made his ODI debut in January 2013. Soon, he became the top pacer for the Indian team. In the 2015 World Cup, he led the Indian pace attack, where the team reached the semi-final. Shami, who is 32, might call it quits on the ODI format to concentrate on test cricket. Shami has played in 90 ODIs and picked up 162 wickets.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah made his ODI debut in 2016. However, he had to miss several series owing to injury. He last featured for India in September 2022 and has been out due to injury since then. The pacer will return to international cricket against Ireland, where he will lead the T20I team in the absence of other senior players.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness will be tested in the series, and if he is fit, he will be selected for the upcoming home World Cup. Undoubtedly, his selection will play a major role in India’s chances to win the World Cup. Bumrah, who has played in 72 ODIs and has 121 wickets, might be playing his final World Cup as well. Despite being just 29, Bumrah has faced multiple injuries that could force him to choose between formats.
