India's tour of West Indies 2023
"Nobody in coaching staff came forward to help Kuldeep Yadav," claims former Indian selector
Former India selector came in help of Kuldeep Yadav during his form slump.
Once seen as a finished product in Cricket, Kuldeep Yadav has made his way back once again with magnificent performances in limited-overs cricket for team India. Kuldeep Yadav has been India’s leading wicket-taker in ODIs since last year, with 32 wickets in 18 innings. There was a time when Team management under the Virat-Shastri era completely ignored the unique Chinaman bowler after a few failures. His performance in the Indian Premier League and for Team India in limited-overs cricket deteriorated. Kuldeep, even after picking up a 5-wicket haul, had to wait almost two years to play his other test match.
Sunil Joshi talks about Kuldeep Yadav
A former member of the Indian selection and currently serving as Uttar Pradesh head coach, Sunil Joshi, has come out in the open and talked about the lack of support Kuldeep Yadav got from the team management. Sunil Joshi said that none of the team’s coaching staff came forward to work on Kuldeep Yadav after he was dropped. Sunil Joshi said, “I was part of the selection panel when Kuldeep Yadav got dropped. Who came to the rescue? None of the coaching staff, and I was the one who got his delivery stride shorter, front arm better, arm speed better, got him to rip more revolutions on the bowl”.
Kuldeep was continuously ignored by the Indian team, even after being a part of the squad. Kuldeep had almost nothing to play for in 2021. His fortunes changed once he made his move out of Kolkata Knight Riders to the Delhi Capitals. IPL 2022 came to him as a blessing in disguise, and he made his roaring comeback with the Indian team. Once he made his way back, Joshi revealed that former India coach Ravi Shastri was surprised by his improvement. Joshi said, “Suddenly everybody is talking about Kuldeep. Ravi Shastri asked, ‘Sunil, What have you done with Kuldeep? I said, “Ravi Bhai, I have not done anything special. There are simple things a bowling coach should be doing”.
Kuldeep Yadav has done a magnificent job for Team India on the ongoing West Indies tour. Kuldeep picked up four wickets in the first ODI in just 3 overs. Later on, he went on to pick up two wickets in the final ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Kuldeep Yadav will play a crucial role in India’s upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup campaigns. Team Management under Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid has given a clear signal about Kuldeep Yadav being the mainstay in India’s spin attack. Kuldeep Yadav, along with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja, will play a crucial role in the upcoming big tournaments.
