BPL 2024: Fortune Barishal terminate Shoaib Malik's contract on suspicion of match fixing

Shoaib Malik is under suspicion of match fixing during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024).
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Fortune Barishal have terminated the contract of Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik on suspicion of match fixing. Social media was abuzz when Malik delivered three consecutive no-balls during a BPL 2024 game when he was playing for Barishal. He was also accused of under-performing in three games for Barishal.
Shoaib Malik conceded 18 runs in the only over he bowled against Khulna Tigers at Sher-e-Bangla International Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. He scored only five runs with the bat in six balls in the same game. This performance led to suspicion of match fixing and prompted Fortune Barishal to take action against the 41-year-old former Pakistan all-rounder.
Shoaib Malik accused of fixing in BPL 2024
Fortune Barishal owner confirmed the news of terminating Shoaib Malik’s contract due to suspicion of match fixing. Barishal owner Minazur Rahman confirmed the news of Malik’s contract termination. Bangladesh media reported that Barishal considered Malik’s intentions as deliberate and that accounts for Malik’s termination from Bangladesh Premier League.
Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik will be replaced by Ahmed Shehzad in the Barishal squad. Ahmed Shehzad played for Dhaka Platoons in Bangladesh Premier League season 2019-20. Malik recently completed 13,000 T20 runs. He became the first-ever Asian cricketer to complete the milestone in this format of the game.
Shoaib Malik recently came into the news when he married famous Pakistani actress Sana Saeed just a week ago. Malik ended his marriage with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, Mirza family released a statement saying that Malik and Sania Mirza had a divorce a few months ago. Malik played 35 tests, 287 ODIs and 124 T20Is for Pakistan.
