Gautam Gambhir slams Virat Kohli after poor show against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023

Virat Kohli could only score 4 runs in 6 balls against Pakistan in Kandy.

Despite a washout in India vs Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi will have a feeling of victory when he walks back to end his day. Shaheen Afridi rattled two of the most magnificent white-ball players with his pace bowling. Shaheen got Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli out in the span of just 4 deliveries bowled by him. Virat Kohli was chopped on when he was trying to play a drive without any foot movement. Virat Kohli had a poor outing at Pallekele and couldn’t stay for long when India needed him the most after Rohit’s early departure. Former Indian opening batter Gautam Gambhir has slammed Virat’s casual approach while batting.

Gambhir slams Virat Kohli

Gautam Gambhir felt that Virat Kohli was too casual in his approach against Shaheen Afridi. Gambhir said in the commentary box, “That was a nothing shot, neither forward, nor back. I think that was a bit casual. That’s what you get when you play someone like Shaheen Afridi. You don’t know whether to go forward or back.” Kohli looked absolutely clueless while facing that delivery against Shaheeh. Kohli opened the face of the bat and didn’t had foot movement to guide the ball at all. Ball took the inside edge and went straight into his off stumps dislodging the furniture.

Waqar says Kohli was unlucky

On the other hand, Former Pakistani pace bowler Waqar Younis felt that the Former Indian captain was a bit unlucky against Shaheen Afridi. Waqar said, “Kohli was a touch unlucky. Inside edge, the ball didn’t come on to the bat and maybe even kept a little bit low. But credit to Shaheen Afridi for altering his length.” Virat could only manage to stay at the crease for 6 balls and his wicket sent a shockwave among Indian fans around the world. Sheheen Afridi also castled captain Rohit Sharma who was deceived by his pace and completely missed the timing and the ball went on to hit stumps right after the rain break.

India lost 4 wickets early along with Shaheen Afridi, Right-arm pacer Haris Rauf also picked Shreyas Iyer (14) and Shubman Gill (10) early in between rain breaks. India were 4 down in 66 runs, from there wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan (82) and all-rounder Hardik Pandya (87) put up a splendid batting performance and added 138 runs for the 5th wicket. Indian lower order couldn’t utilise that partnership as well and India were bundled out on 266 runs. Pakistan’s chase couldn’t happen due to the persistent rain in Kandy. It is expected that wet weather conditions will continue to prevail in Sri Lanka till the Final on 17th September in Colombo.
