Gautam Gambhir came up with another Anti-Dhoni statement during the ENG vs SL clash on Thursday.

Gautam Gambhir was one of the finest openers that India produced across formats. He was part of many wins with the Indian team, where he performed exceptionally well. But if you look into some glorious moments in Indian cricket history, Gambhir's contributions will be among the top. He played two important innings in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2007 and 2011 World Cup which took India to victory.

In fact, he was the top scorer for India in both finals that India won and became World Champions. However, whenever there is a discussion of the World Cup, Gautam Gambhir has strongly expressed his opinion and made a number of statements where he has said that winning a trophy is a complete team effort, not just a captain's individual performance.

Gambhir played an important innings of 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium and held the innings together when India lost both openers cheaply. However, there has always been talk about MS Dhoni's innings, in which he scored an unbeaten 91 runs and finished the game with a six to win the title. Over the years, a number of times, Gambhir has been seen making statements where he indirectly tried to tell everyone that it was not Dhoni who won the World Cup alone.

One such moment was caught during the ENG vs SL game on Thursday when Gautam Gambhir was doing commentary. England had a poor game in both departments, and Sri Lanka outclassed them. Though they are the defending champions, they have not performed accordingly. Hence, during the game, Gambhir said that only a captain can't win the World Cup for the team; it is all about the team's effort.

The former opener said that a captain can't win a title if the team does not perform; bowlers will not take wickets, and batters will not score runs. If the captain can win the title along, then Jos Buttler has already done it. Well, for some fans, it can be jealousy, but for others, Gambhir is telling the truth to some extent.
