Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has always been at the center of controversy with his give-it-back attitude. Gambhir has found himself in the center of the discussions with his comments and his actions in and out of the field. He has once again gained the attention of people with another controversial action during Asia Cup 2023. Gambhir was caught on camera showing the 'middle finger’ to fans sitting in the stands while walking back to the medical center at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Gambhir is currently part of the action as a commentator.

When Gautam Gambhir was walking through a stand at Pallekele Cricket Stadium, a bunch of the notorious fans started chanting former Indian captain names like Dhoni... Kohli..., which was unclear in the video, to tease the former Indian opener. Gautam Gambhir resisted for a while, but he couldn’t control himself for long and turned back to show the ‘middle finger’ to the crowd. Gambhir’s action was caught on camera and went viral on social media as well. This happened when, for the second time, rain interrupted the game. Gautam Gambhir’s rivalry with former Indian captain Virat Kohli is not new in Indian cricket.

Gambhir's ego tussle

There’s a huge ego clash between the two Indian cricket giants, as they have a history of on-ground battles as well. Similarly, Gautam Gambhir's statements about credit in the 2011 World Cup also reveal his not-so-good relationship with MS Dhoni. In this year’s Indian Premier League, Gambhir and Kohli almost came close to a fistfight at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In a game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants, which was pretty close to call, these two had a tussle, and it became a big point of discussion for weeks in IPL 2023. Gambhir was upset with Virat Kohli sledging Lucknow players Kyle Mayers and Naveen-ul-Haq.

Later on, BCCI and the governing body had to intervene, and both of these guys were heavily penalized for their actions. Similarly, in the 2013 IPL, when Gambhir was leading the Kolkata Knight Riders and Virat was leading Royal Challengers Bangalore , these two had a close fight and shared fiery words on the ground.
