As per the reports, Gautam Gambhir’s mother, Seema, suffered a heart attack and is currently in the ICU.
The Indian Cricket Team have faced a massive blow amid the ongoing tour to England. As per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that head coach Gautam Gambhir rushed back home due to a medical emergency in the family.
This comes as a blow to the team as the intra-squad practice match in Kent between India and India A is around the corner. The match, which is scheduled to start from 13th June, will be a crucial game for all the players, especially with selection for the first test against England on the line.
The reports claimed that Gautam Gambhir’s mother, Seema, suffered a heart attack and is currently in the ICU. Hence, the Indian head coach flew back home. However, the reports also gave a positive update, claiming that Gambhir will be back before the first test against England, which will begin from 20th June at Headingley in Leeds.

Gautam Gambhir also missed the team’s practice session on Thursday (12th June). In his absence, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and bowling coach Morne Morkel will oversee the intra-squad match against India A.
The source close to the developments confirmed Gautam Gambhir’s departure back home and said:
“Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is returning to India from England due to a family emergency,” sources told news agency ANI.
The test series against England will be an extremely crucial series for Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. He has come under massive scrutiny for his coaching in the longest format of the game, as under him, the team has bagged some disappointing losses.
Under Gautam Gambhir, India faced a whitewash against New Zealand at home and then went on to face a 3-1 thrashing in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His role in the England series becomes even more important as the team will be without Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired recently.
